Blog Journal 6
I think creating a page as a teacher on a school website is a great way to communicate all kinds of information in regards to the subject being taught, the lesson plans, announcements, and covered material throughout the class during the school year. I explored a few different class pages from various schools and they all seem to contain similar information. Some include a class newsletter, information about the teacher, homework schedules, and much more! The one that I found with the most information was The Wesley School located in North Hollywood, California. On the school website academic page there were links to each grade levels class page. I looked through the 1st grade class page and thought it was well organized and contained a lot of useful information for the students and parents. There was a home page with all four of the first grade teachers at that school that included a short blog/bio summarizing the year. The page also included links to teacher schedules, curriculum overview, helpful websites, and a homework page. The Wesley School
There are many ways I would like to implement technology into my classroom as a future teacher. Taking advantage of opportunities and ways to communicate with other teachers through online sources such as Diigo and Blogger is a great way to get involved in the technology world. Being apart of these will make things more efficient when looking for class materials, websites, and softwares to use in the classroom. I think it is a great way to collaborate on what resources are the most effective and useful. Also, using smart boards and AR apps would be something I would like to do in my classroom to get my students more involved and interested in subjects and materials that I will teach. This leads me into my next paragraph about the Technology Sandbox.
The Technology Sandbox is an amazing place located in the College of Education, Stone Building here at FSU. It is a room with all kinds of technology that teachers and students can learn about and how to incorporate this technology into education and classroom settings. Something I found very interesting was this little robot that can record someone as they walk around a room. The robot follows their move and is able to adjust itself to the movement of the person because of a small controller the person carries or wraps on their wrist. This controller is what allows the robot to sense the movement of the person as they walk around and it also records their voice. I think this can be very helpful for online classes and for students that miss class and can have the chance to view the lecture online. My favorite technology that we got to play with was an augmented reality (AR) app. We got to view a 3D version of an ancient mummy tomb from Egypt. We were able to see the X-ray version and we could inspect the whole tomb like it was laying on the floor right in front of us! I believe this is a great way to get students excited about learning and have a chance to be involved and interactive with educational technology. I have included a few pictures I took there as well!
