ILP #1

I attended the College of Education Technology Showcase and I had a blast! Every single booth was more than interesting and interactive. It was so exciting to explore how technology is impacting education and being implemented into the classroom. I saw things ranging from a 3D printer to virtual classrooms. There were honestly a lot of 3D showcases which was really cool because sometimes you don’t even realize how 3D technologies can be used within a classroom. I even got a chance to use multiple devices that were being showcased, which was my favorite part!

One of my favorite showcases was the 3D pen. At the time of my visit the pens were unfortunately not working but I got to learn about what they can do and even see examples. I was informed that 3D pens can allow you to draw “in the air”  meaning that as you draw in the air the pen prints out material which creates the 3D image you are drawing. You can construct shapes, models, sculptures, and even prototypes. Check out the images I posted which includes pictures of the items people were able to create with the pen!

I also got the chance to check out the 3D TV. For this I had the opportunity to put on glasses that allowed me to see the TV in 3D. The showcasers allowed us to play a game while watching the screen as a bunch of tennis balls bounced around the screen. The object of the game was that we had to keep our eye on a specific ball. When the balls stopped bouncing we would guess which one we thought had the right number on it and by selecting a number on the keyboard it showed us if we were right or wrong. It was honestly pretty hard for me to keep my eye on the right ball, they bounced so fast!

Lastly, I would like to talk about my personal favorite which is the LightBoard. So the LightBoard is essentially a giant clear board that you can write on. The purpose of this is that teachers can teach their class while actually facing the class and writing on the board. The teacher would stand behind the clear board facing the class and write as normal which when written would look backwards to the class, but while the teacher writes it is being transferred onto a screen which flips the writing around for the students to see correctly. The purpose of this is to demonstrate how physically facing the audience while teaching increases productivity and connection. I’ve also posted pictures of this as well!

Overall, I had a great time at the showcase and I was blown away by everything that was presented and how it can all be implemented within a classroom setting. Education technology is a growing community and there is always something new to be learned!
